Fayetteville, N.C. — Police investigators said Wednesday they believe they have found the remains of a 23-year-old Fort Bragg soldier who disappeared more than two years ago and have arrested a person of interest in the case. Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock said Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux’s remains were found Wednesday morning in a deeply wooded area off River Road near the Interstate 295 corridor – approximately 4 miles from the bar where she was last seen alive in the early morning of April 14, 2012. Nicholas Michael Holbert, 27, a man who has been interviewed numerous times by investigators, has been taken into custody and will be charged with first-degree murder, Medlock said

Nicholas Holbert, in this 2012 photo, is escorted to the Fayetteville Police Department after being arrested on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. The 23-year-old was based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and hasn’t been seen since leaving a bar last Saturday. Elizabeth Prann reported that Bordeaux’s husband was not in town when she disappeared. Nicholas Holbert, a registered sex offender who had been questioned twice by police, has turned himself in on unrelated charges of failing to register his new residence in the county. Holbert admitted to giving Bordeaux a ride home from the bar that night, though he denies any involvement in her disappearance.

Her family has spoken out the media and in a press conference her sister pleaded, “Please just return my sister.” Prann reported that the family said the rumors that Bordeaux went AWOL are untrue and she took her duties as a soldier seriously. Kelli Bordeaux, 23, was last seen early Saturday morning, 4/14/2012, leaving Froggy Bottoms bar 6326 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, N.C. The private first class, who is stationed at nearby Fort Bragg, was reported missing on Monday by base officials, police said. The Froggy Bottoms bar at 6326 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, N.C. is right next to the on-ramp entrance to Interstate I-295 which feeds directly onto I-95, see map CLICK HERE. The information that the Froggy Bottoms bar is located at 6326 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, N.C. right next to the on-ramp entrance to Interstate I-295 which feeds directly onto I-95 is significant.
