UPDATE November 9th, 2015: Two men seen on surveillance video “not the guys”. I was able to figure out what the year, make, and model of the van the two guys where driving and contacted the Manatee County Sheriff Office Saturday Morn November 7th and they subsequently found them Saturday afternoon and cleared them. PALMETTO, FL (WFLA) – Manatee County detectives said they have identified the two men in the horse slaughter case and determined that the subjects had no involvement or new information in this case. Detectives continue to investigate. The prized show horse was taken from its stall at a Palmetto horse farm, killed and butchered, possibly for its meat. A reward fund was set up and grown to more than $50,000 for information that would lead to the capture of the suspects. Last Thursday detectives released surveillance images of two men who may have information about the show horse’s killing. Sunday afternoon detectives confirmed that they have identified the men and concluded that they had no involvement or information in this case.

Richard Couto is an investigator with the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In South Florida SPCA’s Richard “Kudo” Couto says he knows firsthand that there is a black market for horse meat. He even quotes prices — a pound of horse meat might sell for anywhere from $7 to $20, with one recent report of $40 for a pound in Broward County. Do the math, a horse weighing over 1,000 lbs can be dressed out to about 600 lbs, that’s $4,200 on the low end and up to $12,000 on the high end, the ultra high price in Broward County would make the killers a profit of $24,000.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this Phedras De Blondel at Imperial Farms case to call the Sheriff’s Office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-8477.
